Ultrasound machine put to work!

Māia recently sat down with Dr Alastair Cadzow at Kaikoura Health to see how the ultrasound machine purchased by Māia has been utilised.

“Overall it's hard to underestimate how useful it is, especially as our patients no longer need to travel to Christchurch for a scan.

“It is used to put in IV lines and to take bloods, this is especially useful in very unwell patients, who often are very hard to get a line into for a variety of reasons, and they usually need a line in and bloods taken very quickly!

“We use it with our pregnant patients to check how the little one is doing, and also to assess unwell patients who may be overloaded with fluid – a scan makes a big impact on our treatment decisions.

“It’s been used to accurately take fluid off joints and more recently for putting steroids in to help relieve pain. It’s a regularly utilised machine!”

Thanks again to Pegasus Health, MainPower and the Salkeld Family for their donations that made this purchase possible.
