Echo Train Records chooses Māia

We love it when people are passionate about our projects and organise fundraisers for Māia!

Meet Benjamin. Benjamin has accessed mental health services in Canterbury and while it helped him to grow and move forward he said it was obvious, with the state of the consultation rooms and the limit of consults, that the sector was underfunded.

Benjamin is passionate about raising awareness around mental health.

“I grew up with mental health issues but at the time people around me didn’t know what that was, growing up no-one really talked about mental health.

“For the last few years I’ve wanted to make sure there is support for children and youth in this space and Māia’s project resonated with me.”

Benajmin has been involved in music for many years and decided to approach 22 artists from around New Zealand, mainly in Christchurch, to donate a track for an album release.

All the artists were told the release was to raise money for Youth Mental Health, and the album was formed around this concept.

The result is an electronic album that follows an emotional journey, some tracks are heavy, dark and raw and others are floaty and ambient.

Released on bandcamp and streaming on sound cloud, Benjamin is hoping that he can sell enough albums to make a significant contribution to the build of 'Kahurangi', the modern, fit-for-purpose outpatient facility for Child and Youth Mental Health that is so needed for our region.

Thank you, Ben, for choosing Māia Health Foundation as your charity of choice.
